With several players absent, Town made 4 changes to side that started on Tuesday night v Desborough Town. Molovan keeper Iustin Cerga came in for Finlay, Ben Browne was signed during the week whist Dan Bendon and Robbie started their first matches of the season after being named on the bench on Tuesday. Tom McGown’s name appeared on a team sheet for the first time in almost a year as he returned from serious knee injury.
Town could not have started any better when they went a goal to the good in the second minute. A long ball from Ross Harris found Alex Webb out on the left. His excellent cross was superbly volleyed home by ROBBIE PARSONS on his debut.
Kieran Fitzgerald nearly made it 2 0 on 8 minutes when he went through the middle of the Rothwell defence. The keeper did well to block his shot.
Jordan Henson should have equalised on 12 when clean through on goal but he miskicked and the ball ran gently through to Cerga.
Eight minutes later and Rothwell equalised. Joe Wright got past his man and pulled the ball back from the right to Lewis O’Dell who smashed the ball into the roof of the net giving Cerga no chance.
Town should have gone in front straight from the kick off as Fitzgerald beat and rounded the keeper on the edge of the box however his ball back in was intercepted by a defender and cleared to safety.
Ben Browne had a good chance to restore Towns advantage when put through on the left. Again Martyn Thorpe did well and got down to smother Brownes shot.
Two minutes later and Town were in front. A ball in caused chaos in the box and Rothwell failed to clear their lines. The ball came back in and Robbie Parsons turn was too quick for a defender who brought the debutant down. PHIL CASSIDY took the penalty and placed it perfectly to the left of the keeper into the corner of the net.

After almost a year out with a knee injury, Tom McGowan came off the bench in the 73rd minute to replace Kieran Fitzgerald.
Rothwell had the lion’s share of the possession in the final 15 minutes as they committed players forward trying to grab an equaliser.
A superb tackle from Captain Ross Harris prevented a Rothwell striker going through on goal with just 2 minutes to go and Town held on to secure their first points of the season.
